Mehraneh Atashi

She lives in Tehran, Iran and explores personal relations and urban frontiers refusing to be caught in any divisive political issues applying herself to condition of man. Of her recent Self-Portraiture of Tehran she states : What if, one day your location decides to take some self portraits of herself ? My place, Tehran, has tended to be my subject for several documentary projects, but this time, she really teased me to show her in a more personal way. The dull looks of her deformed body, all together with my influenced face led me to capture some moments. In the last 30 years, Tehran was faced with an enormous growth. The population has been boomed from 5 to 15 million and the city has lost most of her historical identity through huge and ridiculous constructions all around it. Lots of memorial locations have now culturally disappeared, and the polluted streets are converting this city from a lively location into simply a transit path. Tehran¹s Self-Portraits are shot by Holga, a lovely plastic Chinese camera with 4 color flash.
